Common Ground’s 2nd Annual Walk Raises $30,000
The rainy day didn’t dampen the spirits of the more than 100 walkers who came out for CG’s 2nd annual Walk on Common Ground, held Sunday, May 2.
Terrie Meerscheart, this year’s official walk ambassador, kicked off the event with a compelling and heartwarming opening speech about the loss of her son to suicide. She then led the walkers on a 5K journey around the beautiful campus of Oakland University.
Many participants brought their dogs. These four legged pals were offered water and doggy treats supplied by Peer Choices, a local organization that offers peer support to consumers of mental health services. Walkers were cheered across the finish line and then to replenish their energy, they enjoyed a pizza and salad party provided by Buddy’s Pizza. Other snacks included bagels, coffee and fruit supplied by Starbucks, Einstein Brothers Bagels, Absopure, Whole Foods, Cosi and Costco. D.J. Randi Travino from Music for the Masses provided entertainment while Best Bet Party Rental supplied the tents and chairs.
To date, approximately $30,000 has been raised for Common Ground’s programs and services.
